Be Present With A Cup Of Tea ♥

Drinking a cup of tea for me is more about the mindfulness, contemplation and relaxation than anything else. I recently watched an interview with Oprah and Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese Buddhist Monk. He explained how the mere act of drinking a cup of tea can help the drinker take time to re-calibrate and be present, something we should all aim to do more of.

  1. Be aware of your surroundings, listen to the water boiling, see the steam rising, alert your senses.
  2. Enjoy the water pouring into the pot or cup, watch the water change colour as it infuses the tea leaves, inhale the evolving fragrance of your brew.
  3. Embrace the warmth of the cup, let it envelope you and relax with it.
  4. Sip and savour.
  5. Forget about the past. Forget about the future. Be present ♥

  1. I would like to be present but generally I am like a hungry dog in a butcher when it comes to drinking my tea, especially if it’s been a long wait, ha ha ha

  2. I have enjoyed tea since I was a little girl, drinking it with my grandmother. She would always say, “We don’t really do anything while drinking our tea. Drinking our tea is the thing that we’re doing.” That always stayed with me, and now as an adult tea is much more to me than just having something I like the taste of.

  3. Never really thought about it like this before. I suppose I think the end result of the drink of tea is the point and to be fair I rush through the steps to make it. But this def puts a different spin on things. Self care and tea. The perfect combination

    1. Exactly! Can’t pour from an empty cup so it’s important to look after ourselves and take some time – even with such a simple thing as having a cup of tea. Thank you for sharing ♥

  4. There’s a definite message here I think…at least for a few minutes during a busy day, when it’s time for tea and the kettle goes on take some time out for yourself too…even just to appreciate the little luxuries we have in life. ❤️ this post. Pinned it. X

  5. I think the grape may be turning into wine? Not sure. I did not grow up with an appreciation of tea. Growing up in the South (in the US), we drank sugar covered in what they called tea. Ruined me for years. A recent trip to London taught me to start appreciating tea. But, this is a new idea that I will try. It is an opportunity to slow down, regroup and find a quick moment of peace.
