So many blog posts for the past seven months have started with the phrase ‘2020 has been a(n)….year’, and it’s true. Many of us could very quickly fill in the blanks to talk about just how much of a challenge this year has been for them, and the things that have had to be cancelled or postponed as a result of its events.
However, conversely, maybe a global pandemic is a good time to think about happiness and being happy?
It’s easy to go on to think about the moments and things that brought laughter and joy. The concept of happiness is such an individual thing, unique to each person, but what is it that can bring us to this place?
Here are a few universal habits of happy people.
Stay Busy-Not Rushed
Feeling rushed is an easy way to add stress, anxiety and unhappiness to our day to day lives. However, staying busy -can- make us happy.
This means having the right level of activity that can bring a sense of satisfaction, rather than being bored and depressed as a result.
A pandemic is a good time if you feel comfortable doing so- to use your time to benefit others. However, it’s also okay to say ‘no’ from time to time to take care of yourself, your energy, and your commitments.

Be Intentional with your Friendships
If several months of being apart from the people we love have taught us anything, it’s that relationships are vital. They are probably the most important thing when it comes to thinking about our overall sense of life satisfaction.
Friendships allow us to think outside of ourselves and our wants and needs, which is why it is essential, now more than ever, to intentionally check in with our friends.
Following people on social media can make it easy to believe that we’re staying in touch with friends. Aside from knowing what people made for brunch, it is important to be available to speak about the real stuff, too.
It can be a text, a phone call, a card to let them know that you’re thinking of them. While it may not be a good time to meet up with people, we can still make sure that our friends know that we are there for them.
Transform Your Mindset by Being Thankful!
Take the time to list at least three good things about the day. This means that even on the worst days you’re able to find the good, changing your perspective, and therefore your mindset. It could be the way the light looked through your window as you woke up, the first sip of tea in the morning, or the fact that you have a place to call your own where those activities are possible.
Thankfulness is a sure way to keep on encouraging those positive vibes!
We spend too much time worrying about the bad things that are going on in the world. It’s not impossible to transform your mindset and become a happier you- even through a pandemic!
What have you been doing to create a happy place during this unsettling year?
