Bougainvillea Tea – A Natural Cough Remedy

Now it’s the season of Bougainvillea. The beauty speaks, when you stare at her. She can gift you hundreds of words to compose your poetry. Or in short, she can quench your thirst. She mixes her fragrance in the air and it will make you adorn her beauty with your words. She loves it, when you glorify her beauty. She smiles, when you embellish her with your words ♥

We have been so fortunate to meet an extraordinary couple, who invited us to stay with them in Kas, Southern Turkey. We have learnt so many things about the local Turkish culture, history, politics, food and people. One of the truly beautiful things I discovered was that the stunning and prolific Bougainvillea that I see daily in this area can be used to make a tea, and one that is very beneficial in particular for an early onset cough. This is a recipe that is used widely in Mexico and is passed down through the generations as an essential natural remedy.

Bouganivillea comes in an array of gorgeous colours, Purple, Red, Pink, Salmon and White. In some cultures it symbolises peace and an encouraging portrayal of free trade between two establishments. The beautifully coloured petals have antimicrobial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Avoid using the stems and thorns as these can cause an allergic type reaction to the skin. As with all herbal remedies exercise caution and gain further information if you are pregnant or have any underlying health conditions.
