Hand-picked. Hand-blended. Beautifully brewed.
“Some teas are simply sipped. Others invite us to pause – to notice the colour, breathe in the fragrance, and savour the quiet magic in the cup.” ~The Tea Chest Blog ~
There is something rather special about discovering a tea that delights the senses before you’ve even taken your first sip.
My latest tea discovery is Hibiscus & Cinnamon, a beautiful loose-leaf herbal infusion from New Zealand company Magic T.
And what a lovely discovery it has been!
First Impressions – A Feast for the Eyes
One of the things I adore about loose-leaf tea is being able to appreciate the ingredients in their natural form.
Opening the packet revealed a gorgeous combination of deep crimson hibiscus flowers and rustic pieces of cinnamon bark.
The contrast between the rich burgundy petals and warm, earthy cinnamon was simply beautiful.
There is something wonderfully authentic about seeing whole botanicals rather than finely chopped ingredients hidden away in a teabag.
And the fragrance! A lovely combination of floral notes and gentle, warming spice that immediately made me look forward to brewing my first cup.

The Brewing Ritual
For me, making tea is never simply about preparing a drink. It is a little ritual, a moment to slow down and enjoy the process.
I chose my trusty cast-iron teapot for this particular brew.
Watching the dried hibiscus flowers slowly soften and release their beautiful colour was quite mesmerising.
As the infusion developed, the water transformed into the most extraordinary deep ruby-red.
Honestly, it was almost too beautiful to drink!
The recommended brewing temperature is approximately 90–95°C, with a steeping time of around 5–8 minutes, depending on your preferred strength.
And the resulting colour? Absolutely stunning.

The Taste – Smooth, Fragrant and Beautifully Balanced
Magic T describes this blend as “Tart, Floral & Spiced”, which certainly captures the character of its two ingredients.
However, my own experience was a little different from what I had anticipated.
I expected the hibiscus to deliver quite a sharp, tangy flavour, but instead I found the infusion wonderfully smooth and enjoyable.
The floral character of the hibiscus was lovely, while the cinnamon added a gentle warmth without overwhelming the blend.
Nothing seemed too strong or overpowering.
What I particularly enjoyed was how beautifully the flavours complemented one another.
The aroma was delightful, the colour extraordinary, and the drinking experience surprisingly mellow.
It was one of those teas that encouraged me to linger over my cup rather than rush through it.
And sometimes, that is exactly what a good cup of tea should do.

Hand-Picked, Hand-Blended – The Magic T Philosophy
One of the things that caught my attention about Magic T was the care behind its blends.
Hand-picked. Hand-blended.
Two simple phrases that say rather a lot.
Magic T is a New Zealand-based, family-owned tea company founded by Frida and Ehsan, whose journey began with a passion for traditional herbal teas and the people who grow their ingredients.
Their search for quality botanicals took them to traditional farmers across Iran, Turkey and India.
The company places importance on sourcing ingredients directly from small farmers, maintaining the integrity of whole flowers and herbs, and creating its blends by hand in small batches.
Their teas are blended and packed here in New Zealand.
I particularly appreciate their commitment to keeping things simple, with no unnecessary additives, artificial fragrances or flavourings.
And Hibiscus & Cinnamon is a perfect example.
Just two ingredients: hibiscus flowers and cinnamon bark. Nothing else.
There is something rather refreshing about that simplicity. Magic T

A Tea for Every Season
Although I enjoyed this blend hot, I can easily imagine it being equally delightful served chilled on a warm summer afternoon.
Its beautiful ruby colour would look gorgeous in a glass teapot or clear drinking glass, perhaps with a slice of orange or a little fresh mint.
Naturally caffeine-free, it is also a lovely option for those moments when you fancy something different from traditional black or green tea.
Personally, I think this is a tea that deserves to be enjoyed slowly, preferably with a good book and a little time to yourself.
Final Thoughts from The Tea Chest
Some teas capture your attention with their flavour, others with their fragrance.
Every now and then, you discover one that manages to do both while also being absolutely beautiful to look at.
Magic T’s Hibiscus & Cinnamon is one of those teas.
From the gorgeous whole hibiscus flowers and pieces of cinnamon bark to the rich ruby infusion and smooth, fragrant flavour, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience.
I also love the philosophy behind the company: traditional ingredients, thoughtful sourcing and the personal touch of hand-blending.
It is lovely to discover a New Zealand tea company that celebrates the natural beauty of its ingredients.
Would I enjoy another cup?
Most definitely!
And I suspect this won’t be my last encounter with Magic T.
Until next time, put the kettle on, find your favourite cup and enjoy a little moment of calm.
With love and a warm cuppa,
