When you buy from a small business an actual person does a little happy dance.

I love it when I stumble across new (to me) tea businesses, and even more so when they are a small local business using locally sourced ingredients. Persephone Potions is based in the sunny Hawkes Bay on the east coast of New Zealand. With the tag line ‘Artisan Herbal Infusions’, my interest was immediately peaked – and I wasn’t disappointed. The herbal teas are hand crafted using organic, locally sourced wild-crafted ingredients. I purchased the Golden Goddess which has a magical blend of Tulsi, Turmeric, Orange, Black Pepper and Cardamon. Turmeric is known as Kanchani or Golden Goddess in Sanskrit. It is a very popular and powerful herb which has many health benefits such as anti-inflammatory properties, supporting liver health and joint mobility. Tulsi or Holy Basil is a relative of the mint family. It is known for its support in lowering blood pressure, cholesterol and assisting with headaches, anxiety and sleep.
The steeping instructions for Golden Goddess are 1 tsp of the blend per cup. Using an infuser or teapot add boiling water and infuse for no less than 10 minutes. I thought this would be quite strong and I was concerned about the temperature as well as I like my tea to be hot. But I was very pleasantly surprised. This was a wonderfully delicate blend that wasn’t overpowering on any of the notes. It was also the perfect temperature to enjoy immediately. The jar size I purchased gives 20 servings which is great to try or as a wonderfully thoughtful gift. There are two other jar sizes available on the website.

Persephone Potions has a fabulously fresh website, Facebook page and Instagram. Check them out and support a great New Zealand tea company, you won’t regret it!
